It's one of the most common questions we get... "What do I wear to my photo session?".
We know it can feel a little intimidating to not only have to find the perfect outfit for yourself but even more daunting is dressing your entire family for photos! 
So here are our top 5 tips for making your next family photo session the best it can be. 

Coordinate Your Family, DON'T MATCH.
If you don't read any further, trust us and read our number one tip.
It's true that it used to be a popular 'thing' for everyone to wear the same outfit. Like jeans and a white t-shirt. Or khakis and a white button down shirt. But notice we said 'used to be.' One of the worst things you can do for your family session is dress everyone the same. And generally speaking, white is one of the worst colors you can choose for photos. It washes out the photos, and it's not very forgiving (you know what we're talking about!). Our best advice is to choose a color palette that you gravitate towards (cools, warms, neutrals) and build from that. Mix and match colors so that everyone compliments each others, not copies each other. Avoid all white or all black colors. 

Think Classic.
It's our goal to give you photos that you love so much you want to display them in your home forever. Choose simple, timeless and classic clothes and your photos will have a classic and timeless feel. 

Comfy and Cozy.
It's true that there are a million adorable, perfect little outfits you can put your kids in and they will, no doubt, be adorable. But if they aren't comfortable, it's obvious. And it's amplified in your pictures. Make sure the outfits you pick for everyone fit well and are comfortable. And don't forget to dress for your elements. If you've booked a fall session, and it's a chilly day, dress to stay warm. If your family session is scheduled in the spring, dress accordingly. Just because it's cute on a mannequin in a store, doesn't mean it will fit your child, spouse or yourself the way you'd like for photos. 

Consider Location.
We will always let you know at least a week before your session where your location will be. If we are shooting in the fall foliage, wear colors that compliment the beauty of the season. Deep reds, oranges, greens and even purple are beautiful in the fall. If we're shooting in the gardens during the spring, pretty bright pinks and teals are always lovely. If you are ever unsure, you are always welcome to ask, and we'll tell you all about your location. 

Follow the 3 Ps... Plan, Pinterest, Prep!
It won't be nearly as frustrating the day of your session if you have all outfits already picked, tried on and prepped for your session. Pinterest can be the biggest help when needing ideas for your session! Just search 'What to Wear to Family Photos' and you'll be on information overload. Prep your accessories too. Earrings, scarves, belts... they all make interesting additions to your photos.
